POSITION PURPOSE:
Supervises and leads staff of the HVAC Shop, ensuring that maintenance and repairs are handled in an effective and timely manner. Performs master craftsman level work related to HVAC repair and maintenance by responding to work orders, troubleshoots issues of systems and equipment, and determines appropriate measures for resolution. Assists supervisor in recognizing and evaluating occupational safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to protect employee and public health and safety.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external agencies, and the community. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work involves frequently driving automotive equipment, as well as frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Considerable knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, equipment, and fixtures;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps;
- Considerable knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalency;
- Five years of experience directly related to HVAC systems installation and repair.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a valid HVAC and Refrigeration License determined by the North Carolina Board of HVAC Examiners;
OR
- Hold an HVAC technicians license determined by the North Carolina Board of HVAC Examiners;
- Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree or technical school training in electrical systems;
- Experience with computerized maintenance management software, preferably MAXIMO.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises and assigns work to staff relating to heating, ventilating, and air conditioning repairs.
- Supervises staff to ensure work is completed correctly and in a timely manner; provides on the job training to HVAC staff.
- Performs master craftsman level work related to HVAC repair and maintenance by responding to work orders, troubleshoots issues of systems and equipment, and determines appropriate measures for resolution.
- Assists supervisor in recognizing and evaluating occupational safety hazards and takes appropriate actions to protect employee and public health and safety.
- Ensures procedure compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, the required safety training as specified in the safety manual, occupational health practices, and establishing a safe work environment within the HVAC shop.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
