Health Insurance

We offer two Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans, administered through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Employees can select the 80/20 or the 70/30 plan.

Vision Insurance

Vision insurance is administered by EyeMed Vision and available to full-time and job-share employees.

Long-Term Disability

Voluntary long-term disability insurance is available with SunLife Financial. It provides you a monthly cash benefit to help pay for everyday expenses if a covered disability, such as a back injury or chronic illness, takes you away from work for an extended period.

Dental Insurance

We offer a low-premium, self-funded dental plan with a wide network of providers.

Voluntary Benefit Plans

We offer a comprehensive suite of voluntary benefit plans underwritten by Colonial Life, including cancer, accident, disability, medical bridge, critical illness and multiple life insurance options.

Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts

Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account Plans are administered by Ameriflex and allow you to spend pretax dollars on critical expenses such as childcare or health products and services.

For Your Future

Retirement

Permanent full-time employees are automatically enrolled in the North Carolina Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS). It requires employees to contribute six percent of their pretax earnings while the school district matches those contributions by more than 24 percent.

Liability Insurance

All North Carolina public school district employees receive professional liability protection. This free policy requires no enrollment and is a state benefit.

Supplemental Retirement Plans

Eligible employees can also choose to participate in the NC 401(k) Plan, administered by the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer. Our district also offers a 403(b) and 457 Plan, administered by VOYA. Each supplemental plan offers employees the option of contributing pre-tax and/or post-tax dollars, collected monthly via payroll deductions.

Paid Leave

For all permanent personnel, we offer annual leave, sick leave, maternity (sick) leave, extended sick leave, community service leave, non-paid leave and military or jury duty leave.

Employee Assistance Program

The Deer Oaks Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides wellness resources and short-term counseling services to all district employees and family members. Services offered by the EAP include:

  • Personal counseling and assessments with local mental health providers;
  • 24/7 telephone and crisis counseling for employees, dependents and household members;
  • Online tools and resources;
  • Legal/financial assistance;
  • Professional referrals to health plan and community resources; and
  • Resources related to child/elder care, parenting needs, health and wellness matters, smoking cessation, weight management and more.

Employee Support and Wellness Program

This unique district program supports and encourages a holistic approach to employee well-being. Program services are designed to assist employees in working toward and achieving stress management, lessening burnout and achieving a healthy work/life balance. Offerings include facilitation of Wellness Circles, one-on-one wellness assessments and customized support with navigating Employee Assistance Program tools and resources.
