POSITION PURPOSE:

Administers the screening instruments to children in order to determine academic need and English proficiency. Screening information will be used to determine placement and initial identification of English Learners for our Pre-K program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
  • Knowledge of the needs of preschool students from diverse backgrounds and various learning abilities and styles;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Ability to handle and comply with confidentiality policies, security requirements, and testing protocols in a school setting;
  • Ability to motivate students;
  • Ability to monitor the safety and well-being of students;
  • Ability to recognize variations in student backgrounds and abilities;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Three years of experience working with young children (3-5 years of age);
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish or English and Arabic.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Completes required onsite training with OEL staff prior to the beginning of screening students.
  2. Administers screening to determine academic need and English proficiency level for potential Pre-K students for Wake County Public Schools System (WCPSS).
  3. Scores Brigance and IDEA Language Proficiency Test (IPT) screening instruments prior to submitting folders at the end of each week.
  4. Contacts families to remind them of their upcoming screening appointments; collaborates with OEL staff regarding screening appointments.
  5. Supports families with the completion of the Universal Pre-K application.
  6. Enters screening scores of the Brigance and IPT, multiple criteria points, and student's base school assignment into database.
  7. Adheres to local, state, and federal school laws, policies, and regulations.
  8. Serves as liaison between the school system and Wake County families.
  9. Performs other related duties, as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
