Monday-Friday (occasional evenings) Position is not available for a Hybrid Telework workweek

POSITION PURPOSE:

In collaboration with co-SLMC, teachers and instructional staff, as well as with the Media Technology Advisory Committee, the school library media coordinator creates, aligns, develops, and implements a school library program based upon state and national standards, research- and evidence-based best practices, goals of the Broughton school improvement plan, and the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Strategic Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to implement a comprehensive school library program;
  • Ability to quickly learn, adapt to, and teach new technologies. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and other digital tools to support student learning and library operations;
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, innovative instruction to both students and staff;
  • Functions effectively in a complex, dynamic environment while prioritizing the needs of students and staff;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively to identify needs of the school library program, and create systems to address identified needs, while leveraging volunteers and student interns
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Hold or working toward Master's degree in Library Science with certification in school library media from a regionally accredited college or university.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License as a School Library Media Coordinator (076 license).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leadership
  • Ensures the school library is welcoming to and inclusive of all students and staff and represents the rich diversity of the school and the global community.
  • Provides leadership in collaboratively planning, promoting, and sustaining the school library program, services, and resources.
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for school staff.
  • Organizes the school library facilities and resources in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources.
  • Participates in school PLCs to support teaching and learning goals and objectives for all staff and students.
  • Co-leads the Media Technology Advisory Committee, including using the committee to establish and support library policies and procedures.
  • Leads the school community in use of best practices in copyright, fair use, ethical access and use of resources, intellectual property, and digital citizenship.
  • Aligns all components of the school library program with local and state priorities and standards.
  • Instruction and Literacy
  • Assesses the learning and informational needs of students to drive instructional and program implementation.
  • Co-plans with teachers to meet instructional needs of students.
  • Utilizes blended learning to provide both individualized and social learning experiences in instruction.
  • Uses effective pedagogy to teach information literacy and digital literacy skills in the context of content-area curriculum and standards.
  • Advocates for effective media programs to support literacy school-wide.
  • Implements a school-wide research model.
  • Collection Management
  • Facilitates and promotes the circulation of the school library collection among school stakeholders, including students, staff, and others.
  • With the MTAC, collaboratively develops and maintains a collection management plan for the library program.
  • Continuously analyzes and assesses collection data to ensure it meets informational, recreational, and instructional needs of learners and readers.
  • Advocates for funding to support collection development.
  • Responsibly manages funds used to support the school library collection and its resources.
  • Accurately manages inventories of print, nonprint, and technology materials in the school library collection.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a school environment and has a noise level of low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position requires interaction with school staff, students, parents, and the community. Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.
