POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs master craftsman and lead work associated with installation, inspection, and maintenance of plumbing systems, equipment, materials and fixtures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; Google Apps;
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on plumbing systems;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Five years of experience directly related to plumbing systems installation and repair.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree or technical school training in plumbing systems;
  • Hold a valid Class 1 Plumbing License determined by the North Carolina Board of Plumbing Examiners.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Performs experienced or master craftsman level work associated with plumbing systems, materials, equipment, and fixtures.
  2. Responds to assigned work orders relating to electrical systems; troubleshoots appropriate corrective measures and performs work to provide a solution.
  3. Replaces faulty or defective plumbing equipment and systems.
  4. Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
  5. Adheres to laws, regulations and requirements set forth in the Wake County Public School System's (WCPSS) safety procedures/policies.
  6. Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  7. Performs other related duties, as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in an indoor and environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors and staff members of external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 75 pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.
