POSITION PURPOSE:
Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum for classroom coverage for a teacher. Develops lesson plans and administers testing. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps, and maintains records. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other staff members in assessing students. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.

Must be able to use a variety of office equipment and classroom tools such as computers, scanners, fax machines, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in an office and public school environment and come into direct contact with employees, students, and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
- Knowledge of curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, policies, and effective classroom instructional practices;
- Effective time management and organizational skills;
- Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others;
- Ability to constantly monitor and supervise the safety and well-being of students;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;
- Ability to infuse technology into the curriculum;
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when a student is participating in an inclusive activity;
- Ability to motivate and inspire students;
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment;
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom and in other school environments;
- Ability to maintain files and records;
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school-based staff, students, parents, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and completion of Substitute Effective Teacher Training (SETT) OR Effective Teacher Training (ETT). The SETT/ETT course is typically offered at local community colleges, OR ;
- You may complete the online course (http://appgarden1.app-garden.com/subtraining/wakenc.pdf) via the App-Garden University.
- Upon completion of the SETT/ETT, please upload your certificate of completion to your online application.
- WCPSS will accept App-Garden certificates of completion from other N.C. school systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Develops lesson plans and administers tests.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps, and maintains records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities, as necessary.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive
- classroom environment.
- Identifies and evaluates student needs, student progress, and collaborates with other school staff members.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
- Participates in faculty committees and student activities.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
