POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides direct special education services and effective instruction relating to vision loss for students with a visual impairment. Travels within Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) to provide services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; excellent public speaking and presentation skills;

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and other service providers. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides direct special education services and effective instruction relating to vision loss for students with a visual impairment. Travels within Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) to provide services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to special education services;
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of braille, including Unified English Braille (UEB);
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google apps;
- Considerable knowledge in the areas of Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC);
- Effective skills to promote socialization between and connect the school community;
- Ability to provide instruction for K-12 on common core and extended content curriculum;
- Ability to provide instruction using various communication modes;
- Ability to develop and progress monitor the Individual Education Programs (IEPs) of students;
- Ability to manage classroom activities in coordination with classroom staff;
- Ability to adapt the classroom environment, activities, and materials;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication
techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; excellent public speaking and presentation skills;
- Ability to provide a structured and organized learning environment;
- Ability to perform Functional Vision and Learning Media assessments;
- Ability to interpret eye medical reports as related to educational environments;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree from regionally accredited college or university in Special Education or related field.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Visually Impaired;
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Special Education;
- Special Education Certification;
- Orientation & Mobility Certification;
- Experience with technology and low vision devices;
- Experience with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assesses individual needs of each student.
- Establishes appropriate measurable goals and objectives for each student.
- Aids in design and implementation of an IEP for each student served.
- Keeps accurate records and progress monitoring data.
- Provides appropriate materials for students, training for staff and family members, as needed.
- Submits reports in a timely manner.
- Communicates with parents and school personnel.
- Establishes a regular meeting schedule with students.
- Attends scheduled VI staff and IEP meetings.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
