POSITION PURPOSE:

Supervises and oversees the EC Transportation Operations area and the daily transportation services provided to students by the Bus Safety Assistants. Administers and analyzes procedures, guidelines, and criteria governing the operations of the Bus Safety Assistants. Monitors, reviews, and resolves performance issues that involve the EC Transportation Operations Administrators, as well as the employees assigned to them. Serves as a senior team member of EC Transportation, provides professional leadership, and has the ability to make solid and timely decisions to ensure safe and compliant services provided by the Bus Safety Assistants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of applicable laws and Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) policies, practices, and procedures as they relate to public school transportation of students;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Creative thinker with problem solving skills that can effectively identify solutions related to EC Transportation;
  • Ability to lead, coach and provide direction to staff;
  • Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stressful situations;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to work effectively with school system staff, community groups, and vendors.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
  • Five years of demonstrated successful supervisory and/or training experience in a directly related field; AND
  • Experience or familiarity with transportation accommodations and equipment for special needs students.


An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully meet the essential duties of the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of the Every Child Accountability and Tracking System (ECATS);
  • Experience in designing and implementing EC transportation fleet routes and schedules.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides daily leadership and supervision of the EC Transportation Operations Administrators and area staff.
  2. Establishes clear performance objectives, guidelines, and procedures for staff.
  3. Serves as a mentor in regard to supervision, management, personnel actions, and other functions related to the position to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and practices.
  4. Coordinates recruitment, training, and assignment of Bus Safety Assistant transportation personnel.
  5. Oversees implementation of changes to federal, state, local laws, and school system policies.
  6. Recommends staff position changes, additions, or deletions to ensure the best possible level of service.
  7. Maintains safety standards and develops programs of preventive training.
  8. Coordinates the training program with the EC Transportation Operation Administrators and the EC Transportation Team Leaders.
  9. Reviews, recommends, and ensures accountability of personnel, equipment, and other resources needed and used by the EC Bus Safety Assistant transportation area office.
  10. Investigates and resolves internal and external concerns; corrects any deficiencies in operations to avoid repeated issues.
  11. Attends district meetings as it relates to EC Bus Safety Assistant transportation operations.
  12. Implements, distributes, and modifies, as needed, performance standards and guidelines for the EC Bus Safety Assistant Transportation staff.
  13. Performs other related duties, as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, staff members of external funding agencies, vendors, and the community. Work is considered medium physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.
