WORK WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Provides needed information, education and support to families at assigned schools. Works with staff at assigned schools to contact parents and build relationships that foster family involvement in their children's education. Builds relationships with community agencies that will enhance parent's ability to guide parents toward needed resources.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
• Working knowledge of community programs/resources;
•Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
•Excellent customer service skills;
•Effective time management skills;
•Strong organizational skills;
•Ability to work in a team environment;
•Ability to work independently and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the proper flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, and vendors.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
•High school diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
•Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Experience working with families building relationships and fostering involvement in education.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establishes and maintains working relationship with staff and administrators at assigned schools.
2. Assists schools in contacting and communicating with parents.
3. Conducts home visits to build positive relationships with families from assigned schools and develop two-way communication between home and school.
4. Notifies parents at each school of Parent Liaison function and times of availability at assigned schools.
5. Responds to staff requests to contact parents and provide written follow-up to staff via the Parent Contact Request Form.
6. Responds to parent requests for contact promptly and provide written follow-up via the Parent Contact Request Form.
7. Notifies counselor, nurse and social worker at each assigned school of Parent Contact Request by staff via copy of the Parent Contact Request Form.
8. Uses multimedia formats in communicating information to parents.
9. Attends orientation sessions and monthly meetings as directed by the supervising administrator.
10. Participates as member of each assigned school's Education Success site team.
11. Serves as a family advocate to per assigned school.
12. Compiles data in a timely manner.
13. Plans and presents parent information workshops at assigned schools as requested or approved by school administrator.
14. Compiles and often updates resource materials needed resource information to parents.
15. Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position works in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, families, and the community. Work at times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to 10 pounds. Physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work. The work requires often involving driving automotive equipment. Travel required within Wake County.
