POSITION PURPOSE:

Assists child nutrition area supervisors by providing training to child nutrition managers and cafeteria employees in the areas of management, food production, and food quality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • Considerable knowledge of child nutrition laws, policies, and procedures;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision;
  • Ability to design and deliver training;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, external agencies, vendors, students, parents, and the community.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • One year of experience in food service management or related field.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years of experience as a child nutrition cafeteria manager in a public school environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assists child nutrition services area supervisors in providing training for new cafeteria managers in the areas of management, food production, and food quality in an assigned set of schools.
  2. Provides on the job training and classroom instruction for manager trainees and child nutrition employees by visiting school cafeteria and attending cafeteria manager's meetings.
  3. Conducts school cafeteria assessments using approved processes and documentation; makes recommendations for improvement.
  4. Assists cafeteria managers with developing work schedules and marketing plans; may serve in the role of cafeteria manager, as needed.
  5. Communicates personnel issues with area supervisors, as required.
  6. Stays abreast of policies and procedures relating to child nutrition and Wake County Public Schools policies.
  7. Performs other related duties, as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in a professional office and school cafeteria environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and cafeteria/food preparation equipment. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, vendors, students, parents, and the community. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment for travel within Wake County.
