POSITION PURPOSE:
Supports the servers and storage systems used throughout the enterprise with a focus on maximizing uptime and providing a secure, reliable framework for hosting critical applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be considered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment.

- Considerable knowledge of network fundamentals including addressing, routing, and switching;
- Considerable knowledge of storage and backup systems in an enterprise environment;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps; Windows;
- Ability to build file and application servers using virtualization tools;
- Ability to document and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience;
- Ability to work with internal and external technical teams to support the infrastructure;
- Ability to function effectively within a team environment and to work independently without close supervision;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, students, and the community.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology (IT) or related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering); AND
- Experience working with enterprise computer systems.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Red Hat, and/or other technology leaders;
- Five years of technical experience in a data center environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides technical support for and troubleshooting issues related to our physical and virtual servers, storage, Active Directory, email, and other technical components of our infrastructure.
- Assists with design of and supports the data center, server, & storage components of Wake County Public School's (WCPSS) technical infrastructure. Reviews industry standards and works with team members to help plan, preview, test, recommend and implement new solutions.
- Assists with developing, deploying, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery and backup strategies to ensure systems and configurations are recoverable in a timely manner.
- Provides support and troubleshooting for issues related to our virtual platforms, storage appliances, servers, virtual switches, and fiber switches.
- Assists with managing update cycles for virtual and physical servers, storage systems, and other data center hardware. Works closely with other support personnel to minimize downtime and potential complications.
- Keeps current on any critical system vulnerabilities discovered and takes immediate action to protect WCPSS' environment. Hardens systems per best practices and security team recommendations.
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring to team staff. Assists other areas with expertise and advice as needed. Documents all processes and procedures on an ongoing basis.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
